There are lots of fun options for making music this summer! Here are some recommended programs:
GEORGIA ASTA STRINGS CAMP www.georgiaastacamp.com/ This is a 4-night sleep away camp located just south of Atlanta that combines music making with fun summer activities and is targeted to beginners and intermediate middle school aged students. Several Galloway students have enjoyed this program! UPBEAT STRINGS CAMP www.upbeatstringcamp.com/ Several Galloway students have enjoyed this program, which has 3 locations in Cobb and North Fulton County and is a great choice for intermediate students. ATLANTA CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL www.atlantachambermusicfestival.com/ This is a seven-day residential music festival for students of all orchestral instruments and piano in grades 6 to 12. ACMF stands out as one of very few festivals in the country with a chamber music focus for pre-college students, boasting an artist-faculty of the highest caliber in the Southeast, world renowned guest artists, thoughtful course offerings, and outstanding performance ensembles. All of this takes place on the campus of Agnes Scott College, where evening activities include social events and concerts by our artist-faculty and guest artists. ENCORE ORCHESTRA CAMP www.encoreorchestracamp.com/ Located on the campus of Clayton State University, Encore Orchestra Camp provides an enjoyable musical experience for students from beginner level through 9th grade (students may attend between 9th and 10th grade). Students receive a good blend of educational and recreational activities during the week.

The 5th and 6th grades really shined in demonstrating new and ongoing skills...and Large Marge will live forever in our hearts! The 7th and 8th grades played a new integrative concert format with skill and finesse. Bravo to all!
5th/6th Fall Concert:Wednesday Morning, November 8, 8-8:30 am 7/8 Concert: Wednesday Evening, November 8, 7-8 pm 5th/6th Spring Concert: Wednesday Morning, April 11, 8-8:30 am
7/8 Spring Concert: Wednesday Evening, April 11, 7-8 pm Younger students, please consider attending the evening concert to hear what you'll soon be sounding like! Please check the school calendar for additional performances as they are added through the year. During the first full week of school, grades 6, 7, and 8 received their school rental instruments if needed, and started making music with scale games and pieces. Grade 5 will receive their instruments on Monday and Friday and will learn and demonstrate the basics of instrument care before taking their instruments home to practice. All students who rent school instruments will bring home a rental form for parents to sign and return, and the business office will take care of billing $200 for the school year. Please email me if you have any questions.
My best judge of summer being around the corner is how much more proficient my students are from the beginning of the year. That, and they all look like they belong in the next higher grade!
Here are some important notes for the remaining weeks of school: Strings students will turn in instruments they have rented from Galloway during the last week of school. If you have rented from another source, it is your responsibility to return your instrument. Summer is always a good time to consider private lessons, since there is no homework and schedules are more free. If you have an enthusiastic player, consider contacting the Georgia Academy of Music http://www.gaom.us or other music school for lessons. Stay tuned for more information about STRINGS BOOT CAMP, the week of July 31. It is an opportunity to get back in the swing of playing for the school year (and also a chance for new students to get a head start!). HAPPY SUMMER! Summer is a great time to improve your playing skills, play fun music, and meet new friends. Whether a week long day camp or a weeks long sleep away, there is something for everyone!
