SPRING CONCERT: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19, 7:30 AM (please note morning time).
We are playing D and G Major scales in rhythms from slow to fast. We are also learning a Native American melody in collaboration with EL art teacher Ms. G. on indigenous flutes. We continue to work in every class on correct playing position and bow hold, note reading skills, and playing both with bow and plucking.

1. Practice at the same time, same place.
2. Record yourself (be your own "ears"). 3. Observe yourself playing in a mirror or on video. 4. Practicing without your instrument can be useful. 5. Figure out finger placement before playing. 6. Find a recording and listen to the piece. 7. Play a difficult passage with a metronome on a slow speed and increase speed by 3-5 clicks as you repeat it. 8. Spend 1/2 of your practice time playing scales, ideally in the key of the piece you are playing. 9. Take difficult passages measure by measure. 10. In fast 16th note passages, play the passage backwards! 11. Have a schedule for readiness; map out goals before a performance or test. 12. If you are learning a passage in a higher position, play it in first position first to hear what it sounds like. |
