Our 9 brave and funny actors in our Acting class have been jumping into our scenes with so much energy and enthusiasm! They are rehearsing two scenes: one is about 2 super-competitive contestants for a "Fear Factor"-esque TV show who are trapped in an elevator together-- and must over come many of their fears together. The other play is about a lonely veterinarian and his cat-obsessed client who realize that neither are very good with people! I have been so impressed with each student's ability to embrace the emotional state of the character and to work independently with their scene partner. We will present these to each other during Wednesday's class, and when we return from Thanksgiving all of the students will be creating an original character for whom they will write a monologue or a scene! I am excited to see what they come up with.

Ms. Marele's Theatre Tech Magic Class was challenged to create set and costume designs inspired by a story, movie, or show.
Ms. Marele's 7/8 Theatre Tech Magic class got to experience the design aspect of theatre tech this term. After learning about how costumes are designed for the stage and the research that goes into them, they designed their own costumes for scenes they read. The students researched the plays and the time periods they took place in and then either drew or found pictures of costumes for the characters in the scene. Here are some examples: After learning about the parts of the stage, Mrs. Marele's Theatre Tech Magic class made shoebox stages, complete with curtains!
Our Improv Class has begun with a bang this term! Our 12 students have been practicing the art of saying "yes", and really listening to each other so they can build a scene. In today's class, we played a fun game called "Experts." In this game, one of the students must be an expert on a pre-selected topic, and the other student is an enthusiastic host of a talk show in which they interview the expert. We had some hilarious scenes today about basketball, giant rocks, horses, and homework alerts! Below is a picture of our brainstorm of all possible topics, as well as our Improv Rules that we use for each class.
